ITINERARY

Day 1: SUNDAY: Frankfurt – Würzburg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber(D)
Depart from Frankfurt in the morning for a picturesque drive through the Spessart Mountains to Wuerzburg on the banks of the River Main. On arrival at Wuerzburg, we proceed to enjoy a guided tour of the magnificent 18th Century Wuerzburg Residence, a masterpiece of Baroque Architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, originally designed for Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn. Browse through a total of over 40 palace rooms and check-out the rich array of furniture, tapestries, paintings and other 18th Century treasures. Depart from Wuerzburg and proceed on the world famous Romantic Road to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany’s well-preserved ‘Jewel of the Middle Ages’. On arrival, enjoy a city walk and a visit to the St. Jacob’s Church, which is famous for its Holy Blood Altar, a beautifully sculpted altar created by Tilman Riemenschneider and made famous by a crystal holding a drop of Holy Blood. Check-in at hotel and relax for some time before descending down for the welcome dinner with complimentary drinks at the hotel. Post-dinner, embark on an unforgettable Night Watchman Tour, a night tour of Rothenburg ob der Tauber with the legendary night watchman. Overnight in Rothenburg ob der Tauber Meals: Dinner
Day 2: MONDAY: Rothenburg – Augsburg – Munich (B)
Today morning, after breakfast, we will continue our trip along the Romantic Road. See charming villages like Dinkelsbuehl or Noerdlingen before we arrive at Augsburg. We continue to the Bavarian capital, Munich. Enjoy an orientation tour of Munich, passing Nymphenburg Castle, a 17th Century Baroque Palace commissioned by the prince-electoral couple Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy as the main summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria, and the Olympic Grounds, which house some of the most iconic landmarks of the city including the huge Olympic Stadium with the world’s largest roof and the Olympia tower, which is serviced by the steepest elevator in the continent. Proceed to check-in at hotel. In the afternoon, we will enjoy a walk down to the Marienplatz to catch the Rathaus-Glockenspiel 05:00PM show. The Rathaus-Glockenspiel is an early 20th Century creation that brings alive two 16th Century tales through 32 life-sized figures to the accompaniment of the chiming of 43 bells. The show lasts approximately 15 minutes. The evening is free for own activities. Would you like to have a look into the ‘Hofbraeuhaus’ or to attend a concert or an opera? Please just ask your guide! Overnight in Munich. Meals: Breakfast.
Day 3: TUESDAY: Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Ettal – Oberammergau – Fuessen (B)
Depending on the weather conditions on this day, we will depart from Munich and drive to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, a mountain resort town at the foot of our highest mountain ‘Zugspitze’, the site of the 1936 Winter Olympics and one of the most important winter sport towns in Southern Germany before going on to the Benedictine Abbey of Ettal. Our next stop is Oberammergau, a small town internationally famous for its passion play – generally performed every ten years – a joint effort by almost 2000 actors, singers, technicians and instrumentalists and for its numerous buildings with Lüftlmalerei, i.e. frescoes of traditional Bavarian themes, fairy tales, or religious scenes. After a short tour, we will continue on to our next stop, Fuessen, where we will make a short stop at the glorious rococo Pilgrimage Church of Wies, which is as famous for its exquisite interiors as for its importance as a pilgrimage site. It is believed that the statue of Jesus Christ on the Cross shed tears in 1738 leading to a pilgrimage rush and the building of the church. Proceed to the hotel for check-in and overnight stay. Overnight in Fuessen Meals: Breakfast.
Day 4: WEDNESDAY: Fuessen – Hohenschwangau – Linderhof – Rottenbuch – Fuessen (B)
Today, we will depart from Fuessen after breakfast and take the short trip to Hohenschwangau and the breathtaking fairytale castle of King Ludwig II, Neuschwanstein! After a guided tour of Neuschwanstein, we will continue to Linderhof on a scenic Alps tour through Austria. Linderhof is the only palace ‘Mad King Ludwig’ lived to see completed. In the later afternoon, we return to Fuessen – not having missed to see another treasure of rococo architecture, the monastery church Rottenbuch. Overnight in Fuessen Meals: Breakfast.
Day 5: THURSDAY: Fuessen – Lindau – Lake Constance (B)
In the morning, after breakfast and check-out, we will head to Lake Constance and arrive at its north shore, located between Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Enjoy a walking tour of the beautiful village Lindau before we continue to Konstanz, the largest town at Lake Constance with a lot of historical interest located at Germany’s border with Switzerland. Konstanz is also the birthplace of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the famous airship pioneer. Overnight in Lake Constance Meals: Breakfast.
Day 6: FRIDAY: Lake Constance – Black Forest – Freiburg – Heidelberg (B/ D)
Today morning, we will enter the Black Forest, a region known not only for its delicious Black Forest Cake and the wooden cuckoo clocks but also for its spectacular landscapes. We will visit a clockmaker and of course, you will have the possibility to taste the typical cake. Enjoy a drive through the beautiful countryside towards the idyllic town of Freiburg. After a city tour we continue to Heidelberg, the oldest German university town where you will see the inner courtyard of the impressive Heidelberg Castle, a famous ruin and one of the most important Renaissance Structures north of the Alps. One of the major attractions of the castle is the Heidelberg Tun, the ‘World’s Largest Wine Barrel’, built in 1751 to hold the wine paid as taxes by the people of the wine-growing region Palatine. The wine barrel is almost 23ft high, approximately 28ft wide and can hold 220,000 litres of wine. In the evening, we will celebrate our good-bye to Romantic Germany with a great farewell dinner at famous Restaurant Zum Ritter St. Georg, built in the 16th century. Overnight in Heidelberg. Meals: Breakfast and Dinner.
Day 7: SATURDAY: Heidelberg – Ruedesheim – Frankfurt (B)
We leave Heidelberg early in the morning to take you to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its wines and vineyards and castles and palaces. In Ruedesheim, we board a steamer for a Rhine River cruise, passing fascinating castles, ruins and the legendary Lorelei Rock. Maybe, from the deck of the ship, you will see the blond mermaid combing her hair. Our coach awaits us in St. Goarshausen to take us back to Frankfurt where our exciting journey ends with a small panoramic city tour of Germany’s financial capital. We will arrive by approx. 04:00PM.
