ITINERARY

  • DAY 1: WELCOME TO OSLO

Arrive to Gardermoen Airport in Oslo. For an easy and comfortable way to get to your hotel in Oslo, we are happy to arrange an optional private transfer for you. If you arrive early in the morning—or the day before—to the city, we can assist you with booking day tours in Oslo. You can also buy an Oslo Pass for free travel on all public transit and free admission to over 30 museums and attractions, along with special offers on entertainment, restaurants, shops and more. The pass can be purchased at tourist information centres or at most hotels and major attractions in the city.

Then at 18:00 we’ll gather for a friendly welcome drink to meet our fellow travel companions and tour leader and chat about the days ahead. Afterwards, dinner is on your own. The neighbourhood is full of dining options, and your tour leader may be able to offer suggestions.

Spend the night at Comfort Hotel Grand Central inn in Oslo.

  • DAY 2: RAILWAY JOURNEY TO TRONDHEIM

Early in the morning we will transfer as a group to Oslo Central Station to board the Dovrebanen train. Riding the Dovre Railway gives us a great variation of terrain and altitude as we pass through tunnels, over the Dovre mountain plateau and down the steep, curvy descent to the Trondheim lowlands.

On arrival to Trondheim we will meet with a local guide who will show us around the city landmarks, including Nidaros Cathedral and Bakklandet, an idyllic neighbourhood full of history and culture. In the evening we’ll meet up at the hotel for a dinner together as a group.

Spend the night at Scandic Nidelven Hotel in Trondheim.

Oslo to Trondheim – duration: 08:07-14:50*

*Please note the timetable may change.

  • DAY 3: COASTAL VOYAGE & THE ATLANTIC ROAD

Today we embark on the maritime part of our tour! After boarding the Hurtigruten cruise ship for the Norwegian Coastal Voyage at the Trondheim harbour, we will set sail along the Trondheim Fjord and past Hitra Island. In the late afternoon we will join a guided shore excursion from the city of Kristiansund that takes us over the twisting, scenic Atlantic Road to the town of Molde, where we will re-board the ship. Dinner will be served during this shore excursion, and later during the cruise there will be a brief call at the city of Ålesund.

Spend the night in an outside cabin with private facilities on board the cruise ship.

Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage – departure: 10:00 (includes overnight stay on board)

  • DAY 4: SAILING TO HISTORIC BERGEN

During the night, the ship calls at Torvik, Maløy, and Florø as our voyage weaves through tranquil islets before arriving at our final destination—Bergen. Here we will disembark early in the afternoon and you will have the rest of the day to explore the city on your own.

One good idea is to check out the historical area around Bryggen, with a stroll through the lively Fish Market and a visit to the Bryggen Museum. Other suggestions include a tour around the city on a Bergen Expressen mini-train, a stop at the Fantoft Stave Church and—for classical music lovers—a visit to the small but beautiful Edvard Grieg museum.

Spend the night at Clarion Hotel No. 13 in Bergen.

Hurtigruten Coastal Voyage – arrival in Bergen: 14:30

  • DAY 5: THE CAPITAL OF THE FJORDS

Today we will explore more of Bergen, Norway’s second largest city, with a guided tour around the cultural and historical highlights of the “capital of the fjords”.  Among the highlights, we’ll take in the charming medieval ambiance of Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and enjoy a funicular ride up to Mount Fløyen for a magnificent view of the city. Afterwards, enjoy the rest of your day at your leisure in the city.

Spend another night at Scandic Hotel in Bergen.

  • DAY 6: CROSSING THE FJORDS TO FLÅM

We leave Bergen early today, taking the Bergensbanen train to Voss followed by a coach-bus ride to Gudvangen. Before the bus descends Stalheimskleiva, Northern Europe’s steepest stretch of road, we will have a short break at Stalheim Hotel to enjoy the incredible view over the fjords—a great photo opportunity!

From Gudvangen, we will enjoy a short, scenic fjord cruise in the fjords, which includes sailing through Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. This UNESCO World Heritage site is perhaps the most breathtaking section of Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, with its long waterfalls and steep mountainsides. After navigating the Aurlandsfjord we will arrive at Flåm, a charming village where we will enjoy dinner together at the local restaurant.

Spend the night Fretheim Hotel in Flam.

Journey from Bergen to Flåm: 08:40 – 13:40*

*Please note the timetable may change. The journey includes train from Bergen to Voss, bus from Voss to Gudvangen and cruise from Gudvangen to Flåm. Your luggage will be picked up in Bergen and will be waiting for you on arrival in Oslo. Please pack an overnight bag for your night in Flåm.

  • DAY 7: FLÅM RAILWAY & RETURN TO OSLO

Spend the early part of your day exploring Flåm at your leisure. We recommend visiting the Railway Documentation Centre by the Flåm Station to learn about the construction of the world’s steepest railway track. Later in the afternoon, you’ll get to experience the famous Flåm Railway first-hand as it climbs 900 metres over a span of 20 kilometres up the winding track to the Myrdal Station.

At Myrdal we will switch to the Bergensbanen train for our return journey to Oslo. This ride, voted one of the 20 best railways in the world, passes through the charming villages of Geilo and Gol over Norway’s “mountain rooftop.”

Spend the night at Clarion Hotel Royal Christiania in Oslo.

Train from Flåm to Oslo: 17:00 – 22:32 (includes Myrdal station transfer)

  • DAY 8: DEPARTURE FROM OSLO

When it’s time to head to Oslo-Gardermoen Airport, you can take the Flytoget express train from Oslo Central Station or a taxi directly from your hotel. If your flight is in the afternoon, take the opportunity to do some last-minute shopping or visit one of Oslo’s interesting museums.

If you wish to spend more time in Oslo before or after the guided tour, ask your travel consultant about adding extra nights or services, such as private airport transfers or guided Oslo tour. For an even greater Nordic travel experience, we can arrange a pre or post trip with visits other Northern European Countries including Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Greenland or Scotland, to name some.
